Mathegramming Academy aims to build visual mathematics using programming with Responsibility and Rigor and generate Results. Mathegramming Academy is a program of C3STREAM Land Designs, Auroville.

Mathegramming Academy is a conscious response to the belief that education should help us learn how to live-know ourselves, be self-directed, creative, and clear of inner conflict. Philosophies Underlying Mathegramming Academy:

The philosophy underlying the approach for C3SLD is based on the principles of progressive and constructivist thinkers like Jerome Bruner, and Seymour Papert in the United States, and Sri Aurobindo in India. The philosophy of Sri Aurobindo of the integral development of the child and emphasizes self-knowledge which the National Education Policy is based on stating “knowledge is a deep-seated treasure and education helps in its manifestation as the perfection which is already within an individual.” The philosophy creates guiding principles as teachers and in how we engage with children. The three principles of true education by Sri Aurobindo are: - Nothing can be taught which can be linked to the constructivist theory of not forcing knowledge into a child.

- The mind needs to be consulted in its own growth indicating that the role of a teacher is not to mould or hammer a child into the form desired by the adult.

The teacher is a guide, or mentor that supports and encourages a child in the process of learning, enabling them to evolve toward perfection. - From near to far – which is to work from what is tangible and accessible to children to what is abstract to them. These principles guide our work at C3SLD where Mathegramming is codifying the work that has been done with children over the last 10 years. The focus of Mathegramming Academy is on enhancing children's interactive engagement and project creation by working with programming languages such as Scratch and Pygame. Additionally, they utilize mathematical modelling tools like GeoGebra to boost their ability to develop 3D models. Mathegramming Academy works in alignment with the school curriculum. This will help ensure that students are able to make the most of their learning opportunities and continue to progress academically. Mathegramming Academy conducts teaching training sessions for teachers. The Mathegramming Academy team with support from C3streamland partners with schools to enlighten teachers on how to use programming to enhance math learning by fostering leadership in Action.

MEET THE TEAM

DHARANI

My name is Dharani. I deeply care about perseverance and equity for myself and others. In 2022, I joined STEMland with the intention of expanding my knowledge and skills in the field. I pursued Bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronics from the National Institute of Technology – Puducherry, and a master’s in Business Administration from Pondicherry University. I have cleared UGC-NET in management twice. As I deeply care about perseverance, I understand the importance of engaging children and fostering their creativity. They have a natural ability to connect with teachers and create a stimulating learning environment. With a firm belief in the power of hands-on experiences, I joined to utilize programming languages like Scratch and Pygame and modelling tools like GeoGebra to empower children to create interactive projects in mathematical concepts and develop problem-solving skills. The enthusiasm and dedication inspire a love for learning in the students, fostering positivity and leadership in Action.

ILAKYA ARASI

I completed my M.Sc. in Mathematics in 2021 and joined STEMLAND in 2023 to learn programming. Since then, I have learned Scratch and GeoGebra and have been creating projects based on mathematical concepts. These projects are designed as little games that aim to get children's curiosity and encourage them to learn. At STEMLAND, I have learned effective teaching methods, ensuring that students do not experience the same aimless struggle I once did. I collaborate with students and teachers to develop improved learning approaches. Currently, I am in the process of learning Pygame to expand my project-making capabilities. I also provide support to students who come to STEMLAND to learn Scratch, solve puzzles, or play games. Joining this organization has allowed me to learn many things that were not accessible to me during my time in school and college.

PREETHI

My name is Preethi. I deeply care about courage and kindness for myself and others. Following the completion of my bachelor's degree in Information Technology, I pursued a Master's degree in Computer Applications. While I was studying for my bachelor's degree, I got a chance to do an internship in STEM land. It was a great experience that gave me practical knowledge and opened up new learning opportunities. The internship had a unique learning environment where I was encouraged to think creatively and find innovative solutions to difficult problems. After finishing my postgraduate degree, I realized I didn't feel like I had gained much knowledge. So, I decided to join STEMland, a place known for learning and gaining new skills. In 2023, I enrolled in the Shifu program and subsequently became a member of the Mathegramming Academy. This opportunity taught me proficiency in various disciplines, including Scratch, GeoGebra, and Pygame. This experience has not only allowed me to learn extensively but has also enabled me to enhance my skill set.

SOUNDHARIYA

My name is Soundhariya, and I stand for courage for myself and others. With a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, I embarked on a journey of exploration and growth. In 2022, I joined STEMLAND with the intention of expanding my knowledge and skills in the field. Throughout my time with STEMLAND, I have delved into various programming tools such as Scratch, GeoGebra, and Pygame. These platforms have been instrumental in helping me grasp the concepts of mathematics and create projects that visually engage students and encourage them to think creatively. As part of the STEMLAND activity class, I have had the privilege of supporting students in learning games, programs, puzzles, and animations from scratch. Collaborating with teachers in schools has been an enriching experience. Joining this organization has not only enabled me to learn new things but also nurtured important skills for life. I am grateful for the opportunities provided by STEMLAND to empower students and make a positive difference in their educational journey.

SIVASANKARAN.S

My name is Sivasankaran I stand for courage for myself and others. I have completed Bachelor degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering. I hear about the place Stemland where continuously learning something to grow our self and professional growth. It’s a combination of technical expertise in electronics, coding skills, mathematical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to continuous learning. I joined stemland in 2022 I acquired proficiency in discipline, I learned to scratch, geogebra, python, and Arduino and I become a member of Mathegramming Academy, used to explain maths misconceptions and create projects on the misconception, explain visually, teach maths with materials. Collaborating with students and teachers teaches other prospective of learning maths.

PREMKUMAR

My name is Premkumar, and I deeply care about courage and equality, not only for myself but for all individuals. With a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, I'm currently pursuing a Master's in the same field, specializing in human resources. My journey with Stem Land and the Shifu program began when I came across their innovative approach to mathematics with the use of different programming platforms like Scratch, Geogebra and python. During a captivating conversation with Sanjeev, a member of the organization, I was exposed to a whole new way of understanding and appreciating mathematics. This experience ignited a passion within me, compelling me to join Stem Land and immerse myself in their daily learning activities. The wealth of sophisticated materials and state-of-the-art technology at the institution has been instrumental in keeping me updated with the ever-evolving tech landscape. As part of the Shifu program, I chose to reside on the campus to ensure constant learning and further exploration. This decision has proven to be a transformative one, leading me to be a part of the startup named Mathegramming Academy. The academy aims to provide students with a unique perspective on mathematics, electronics, and programming, thereby fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for these subjects. One of the most gratifying aspects of my journey has been the opportunity to work closely with children. Guiding them through their learning journeys and witnessing their growth has enriched my life profoundly. Moreover, I take immense pride in training teachers in schools, as I believe empowering educators is key to creating a lasting impact on society. My time at Stem Land has kindled a constant thirst for knowledge and an unwavering desire to create positive change in the world. As I continue to explore, learn, and grow, I am determined to make a meaningful contribution to society through my work at Mathegramming Academy and beyond.
